First, before entering into the establishment of the meaning of the term conical projection, it is necessary that we know the etymological origin of the two words that shape it:
-Projection comes from Latin, from "proctio" which means "throw forward". It is made up of the sum of the prefix "pro-" (forward), the verb "iacere" (throw) and the suffix "-cion" (action and effect).
-Conical, on the other hand, derives from the Greek “konikos”, which can be translated as “cone-shaped”. In his case, it is the result of having joined the word "konos" (pineapple-shaped) and the suffix "-ico", which indicates "relative to".

Projection It is a term that can be used in various ways. The concept comes from the verb to project , which mentions planning a thing, propelling something forward or making an object visible on the figure of a different body.

We have already referred to different types of projections, such as orthogonal projection and the Financial Projection . Now it's time to analyze the notion of conical projection .

First, of course, we should know that conic is a adjective that qualifies what is linked to a cone (A geometric figure that is created from the rotation of a right triangle on one of its legs).

The conical projection is the result of direct all the projecting lines towards the same point . All lines that are projected, therefore, converge in the same place.

This graphic representation scheme allows the images to be reproduced faithfully, since it offers a result that resembles what the eye . What is done with conical projection is to project a body of three dimensions on a plane, making the projecting lines converge at the same point. This resulting representation is similar to what we would observe if we were located at that point.

Conical projection is often used to carry out both the realization of maps and the realistic representation of drawings of objects of various kinds. Likewise, it must be taken into account that elements such as the object, the projectors, the projection plane or the observation point play a special role.

It is known as cartographic conical projection to the projection of elements that are in the terrestrial sphere on a tangent cone, using the axis that links the poles as vertex . When the projection is carried out on a secant cone, there is talk of simple conical projection .

One of the best known types of projections of that class is that which is called azimuthal or zenithal projection. With that name, reference is made to that which is developed by projecting a part of the Earth on a flat disk, which is tangent to the globe at a specific point. The result that is obtained is the image that of the mentioned planet would be seen from an outside place to it or from what is the center of that one.
